New Year Pages and More

Focusing on the New Year

We stand at the beginning of the year - challenged to LEARN from the past while LEAVING the past behind.

We are challenged to move forward in our spiritual growth.

New Year Question:

What would God want us to aim toward concerning our spiritual growth?

In thinking about that, I came up with the idea of choosing a "2016 Bible verse."

Here is my 2016 Bible verse:

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

Matthew 5:16 KJV

I encourage you to consider picking a 2016 Bible verse and displaying it on your refrigerator or other prominent place.

Those of you who are parents may want to sit down with each of your children and encourage each of them to choose a special 2016 Bible verse.

In this 2016 New Year....

Let's remember to keep the main thing the main thing.

And Jesus is the Main Thing!

Secrets for Spouses

This month, this section is for couples who are interested in adding more romance to the New Year.

In "Secrets for Spouses" in the December newsletter, I wrote about several things that couples can do to prevent divorce.

One of the suggestions was - "Add More Fun Together."

Last month I wrote:

Adding more fun to a marriage gives lots of happy memories. It also lifts emotions and creates happy thoughts about the future. Adding fun is adding glue to the bond between a husband and wife.

Romance is sometimes a part of the fun of a marriage.

As I was pondering what to write in this month's newsletter, I noted that:

1. Many couples want to add more romance to their marriage.

2. And it gives me joy to help strengthen marriages.

So..... after writing the December newsletter, I decided to make "Romance" a focus of new pages for 2016.

I got busy and have created several new romance pages to present to you.

DISCovering New Year Insights

Understanding the four DISC personality styles gives us insights into what each style is looking forward to in the New Year.

First I will give an introduction to DISC -

INTRODUCTION

To begin, let's get some basic personality knowledge.

There are 4 basic DISC personality styles.

They are:

The "D" which is outgoing and task-oriented.

The "I" which is outgoing and people-oriented.

The "S" which is reserved and people-oriented.

The "C" which is reserved and task-oriented.

Note that each of us is a blend of traits from each of the four personality styles. Yet, the style that contains most of our traits tends to powerfully pull our thoughts in certain directions.

We are all unique. Yet, realizing our main personality style helps give us clues as to our strengths and weaknesses and the strengths and weaknesses of others.

Even after we discover our main personality style, we need to remember that we will not have every trait in our main style.

It is important to realize that each style has a tendency to see life in a different way. So each style approaches life with a different mindset, different thoughts, and different goals.

What is each style looking forward to in the New Year?

"Ds" are looking forward to lots of RESULTS in the New Year.

"Is" are looking forward to lots of FUN in the New Year.

"Ss" are looking forward to lots of STABILITY in the New Year.

"Cs" are looking forward to lots of PERFECTION in the New Year.

Below I give a fuller explanation concerning the "C" style.

The "C" style has a deep desire to do things right - in whatever way they define "Right."

This "desire to do things right" leads to a desire for perfection.

"Cs" want to do things with excellence and perfection.

"Cs" set high standards for themselves and others.

That can cause conflicts with others.

Most people do not realize that "Cs" are generally harder on themselves than others. "Cs" carry heavy burdens.

"Cs" have trouble understanding how to live a balanced life in the area of perfectionism.

As "Cs" learn about DISC, they can discover ways to reduce strife with others AND ways to lay down their heavy burdens - while maintaining their general perspective and focus on life.

My book (featured later in the newsletter) has insights that can help "Cs" with those issues.

Seeking to understand others and seeking to be understood helps all of us to create more harmony and happiness in our life.
