Communion Prayers
for use in celebrating the Lord's Supper.
Receiving the bread and the cup
is a time of reverence and reflection.
Jesus paid a great price
so that we could come to this communion table.
These prayers are intended to help you
achieve the goal of making
each of your Lord's supper celebrations
a more meaningful and unique event.

Merciful Lord,
I come to your table. Your painful sacrifice is on my mind. I look at the communion cracker. I see piercing. I see bruising. I see the brutality of the punishment that you endured for me. I see your everlasting love. *
(Take the bread)
I gaze at the blood of redemption. I see your crimson mercy shimmering in this cup. I see your life being poured out for me. Holy, holy, holy is the Lord.**
(Take the cup.)
In Jesus' Name we celebrate this communion.
Amen
* Indicate to the congregation that this is the time to eat the bread by eating it yourself.
** Indicate that this is the time to drink the cup.

The way Jesus died was brutal and
it is hard for us to think about.
But when we give it some thought,
we are able to more appropriately
thank Jesus for what he did for us.
Communion Prayers continued:
Lord of Infinite Love,
I come to your table to partake of intimate communion with you. I look at the bread. I see your suffering. I see the bruising, the stripes, and the piercing. Yet, the piercing of your body is nothing in comparison to the piercing of your heart. You made the ultimate sacrifice so that I could have everything I need to be right with you. *
(Take the bread.)
I look at the cup. This is the blood that oozed out of you as you suffered on the cross. Blood flowed out of your thorn-torn head as you not only bowed your human head but your mind, will, and emotions as well. I now bow my mind, will, and emotions to your will as I drink this cup. **
(Take the cup.)
Amen
* Indicate to the congregation that this is the time to eat the bread by eating it yourself.
** Indicate that this is the time to drink the communion cup.

1 Corinthians 11:27 - 31
Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner
will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.
For this reason many are weak and sick among you,
and many sleep.
For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged.
Personally I believe that
1 Corinthians 11:27- 31
is telling us to respectfully check our heart
and if there is anything
that we feel we need to ask forgiveness from God for before we take communion.
In reverence and wisdom, I always ask the Lord to forgive me of all my sins before I take communion.
I believe that communion is powerful and
there are aspects that are not revealed to us.
