Prayer for a Broken Heart
We extend a hand of friendship to you
as you go through this difficult time.
No one can truly know the pain you are in.
Yet I encourage you to try praying a prayer
for a broken heart in order to bring
some comfort to you and remind
you that you are not alone.

There are two prayers on this page, and
there are also loving thoughts
that are included after the

Pastor
Steven Dunne
wrote two prayers
for a friend
who was walking through a very difficult time.
The friend's difficult season mirrored difficult seasons in
Pastor Dunn's life.
The Prayers are below.
How long, O Lord?
My heart breaking - Pieces everywhere -
Can they be put back together?
My soul weary - collapsing daily -
Will you catch me?
My mind messy - Fragile Fearful -
The storm sinking.
Could life come from death?
Death of a dream, death of a person -
Pain without purpose is cruel; it is crushing.
This is Pastor Dunn's second prayer to his friend
and it was also his own personal prayer.
I bring my pain. I bring my broken.
I bring my messy.
I bring my storm as an offering of praise.
Safe and secure I pray.
Purpose my pain.
Beauty my broken. Mend my messy.
Still my storm I pray.
How long, O Lord?
Sometimes God seems
far away but his Word
promises us
he is close to us at this time of emotional pain.
When your heart is broken,
your dreams are destroyed and your mind is confused.
There can be a deep feeling of being alone.
Even when there are crowds of people around,
the feeling of being alone invades and separates.
Beth's Prayer for a Broken Heart:
Help Me, God! Help Me!
PAIN engulfing me, sharp, dull, continual, ever-present, ever-aching.
Will life ever be normal again?
Help me, God. Help me, please help me!
I can't hang on much longer.
Amen

Another Prayer for a Broken Heart:
The Pain is TOO Much to Bear
The pain is so intense
It's too much to carry, Lord.
I want to give it to you
But I don't know how.
I have tried to lift it up
To you
But it falls back down on me.
It knocks me to the ground.
It pins me to the ground.
Save me, Lord.
Save me, Jesus.

I wrote those two prayers
during a horrible time in my life
when my heart was shattered
and my dreams were destroyed.
It was a horrible time in my life.
But eventually things got better.

The Healing Process
If we live long enough, we will experience a broken heart.
In extreme cases, it takes a year or two to get out of the ditch and see the light of day. If you keep holding on to God, you will get out of the ditch. You will become strong again.
Tips
Here are some suggestions to consider:
Give yourself grace. Pamper yourself more than usual.
Add extra sleep or give yourself extra treats.
Ponder how big and powerful God really is.
He is able to help you.
He wants to help you.
Tell yourself that even if the healing is slow, you are going to be ok.
Stay close to God -
even if today
you just rest in his arms and watch T.V.
Give all your strength to protecting yourself against choosing sin as a comfort.
Compliment and encourage yourself
as
you refuse
the sin invitations that come into your life.
Stay in church or get started going to church.
Be wise in choosing your companions.
Consider writing your own Prayer for a Broken Heart or writing your thoughts in a journal.
The healing may be slow.
Sometimes it may be imperceptible,
but it is happening.
Sometimes the best thing you can do is give yourself grace and pamper yourself some.
Be easy on yourself
on things that aren't that important,
and pray
that God will help you
to be firm
on yourself in avoiding sin solutions.
Give all your strength to protecting yourself so that you do not fall into sin.
Don't allow the comforts of sin to be your comforts.
Be wise in choosing your companions.
Your companions will either encourage you to sin
or
encourage you to follow God.
Your friendship
choices will reap consequences.
- - -
When you are weak, it is easy to
fall into sins
that you would otherwise reject.
Consider writing your own Prayer for a Broken Heart.
Sometimes expressing the pain - and realizing that you are allowed to express the pain - helps.
