As a senior citizen, I now realize that my generation did not do enough
to teach patriotism to the children and teens.
We are suffering now because of that.
Almighty God,
We begin this prayer by reaffirming our love for you and our dedication to you.
Thank you for our country. Thank you for our constitution. Thank you for our heritage of freedom.
Thank you for those who have served our country in uniform, so that we could enjoy freedom. Lord, we ask that you would abundantly bless each service man and woman, each veteran, and each military family past and present. Their sacrifice inspires us. They are our country’s beloved heroes.
Lord, we feel such sadness as we look at the direction our country is
going. We see the lack of respect for you. We see the
immorality. We see the enormous debt that our country has accumulated. We see
the strife and the division that is growing in our country.
We realize that our country needs prayer.
We come to you today praying for our leaders as you have
instructed us to do in 1 Timothy 2:1-2.
We pray that each of our leaders would begin to yearn for the wisdom that only you bring. We pray that each one would show respect for you by spending time on his or her knees this national day of prayer. We pray that each would ask for your blessing on our country. Lord, we ask that you would stir each of our leaders to sincerely seek to make wise, godly decisions that would benefit the people of our country.
Lord, today as we seek to honor you and to pray for our country, we ask you to forgive our country for often turning our back on your principles.
Forgive us as a country, and forgive us as individuals. Lord, we have all taken our country for granted. And we have all fallen short of your wisdom, love, and mercy which is presented in your Word.
Give our country new harmony and unity with you and with each other.
Stir us to walk in wisdom, in integrity, and in love - toward you and each other.
In Jesus' name we pray,
Amen
