My House will be called a House of Prayer
Matthew 21:13
New Prayer for this Page:
Almighty God,
We pray that our church will have a powerful
service this Sunday.
May the words that you have prepared for our pastor accomplish all that you desire in each heart.
May the music bring each one into close fellowship with you.
May each one leave the service feeling closer to you and more prepared to live
for you.
In the mighty name of Jesus we pray,
Amen

Merciful Lord,
Your heart is full of lovingkindness.
Our hearts are full of praise to you.
You are worthy of our full devotion.
Lord, today we lift up our church to you.
We pray for the sick,
for the grieving, for the lonely, for the broken,
for
the confused, and for all those who are needy this day.
We pray that you would bring your strength, your healing, your comfort, your wisdom, your restoration, your protection, and your provision.
Thank you for giving us a church family to belong to and to love.
Amen

No church has arrived at their mission.
Oh, how we need our Savior each and every day.
-
May our church be a place where we give and receive grace.
Below is a video prayer that inspires us
to become more pliable in the hands of our Lord.
No one can say,
"I have arrived. I am perfect."

We all sin and fall short of the glory of God.
Prayer for our Church
Lord,
Give us tenderness for each other.
Remind us that we all sin.
Remind us that even though we fall down,
you are always there
to help us get back up.
May we also reach out
to help others get back up.
Amen

Loving Lord,
We come to you today bringing to you our fear of being found out.
We bring our fear of people seeing our weaknesses, our mistakes, and our sins.
Minister to us, Lord.
Reduce the fear we have that people will find out that we are imperfect.
Instill a gentleness and a humbleness in our church that reminds us that we are still being molded and shaped by our Heavenly Father.
In the compassionate name of Jesus we pray,
Amen

Lessons from Preschool
As a former prescho0l teacher, I found that many of the songs that we sang had very adult messages.
My favorite song to sing was "He's Still Working on Me."
It had a profound effect on me and even today I find myself singing that song several times a year.
When I am feeling overwhelmed with the amount of mistakes and weaknesses that I see in myself every day, I often find myself singing that song.
The Bible tells us that we need to come to God as a little child.
-
Will you join me and come to God today as a little child
and glean from the following song?

Father of all Compassion and Father of all Mercy,
We come before you to lift up the difficulties and trials that our members are facing.
We ask for your strength to overwhelm and lift each one above his or her circumstances.
Thank you that you are helping us to learn to walk in newness of life.
Thank you that you are reminding each of us of the truths that we need in order to grow in godliness and in all the fruit of the spirit.
Amen

Dear Lord,
We come before you praising you for your infinite wisdom and for your everlasting love.
Lord, you created marriage and only you know the best way to build a marriage.
We lift up every marriage in our church.
We pray for every wife and every husband. Surround them with your love and protection.
Guide each couple into greater harmony and unity.
Encourage them to increase their generosity toward each other.
Stir them to spend more time meditating on the good things about their spouse.
Bring them into a fresh new season of "falling in love" with one another.
And remind them to keep You and Your Word in the center of their marriage and in the center of their hearts.
We pray in Jesus' name,
Amen

Every church wants to be thought of as a friendly church.
- - -
This section has some tips and reminders about friendliness.
________
In God's Word, we are reminded to "Show yourself friendly."
A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly:
and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
Proverbs 18:24 KJV
For some of us, friendliness comes somewhat easily.
For others, it is more of a challenge.
May we all decide today to
move a step forward in showing friendliness.
A Suggestion for Friendliness
Remember the visitors
One suggestion I have for churches, is that when someone goes to the platform to read a Scripture or Preach or Teach - or perhaps even Sing - consider introducing yourself to the visitors.
I have visited many churches. As a visitor, I have noticed how strange it seemed for someone to just get up and start talking to the congregation without introducing himself or herself.
Meaning: When someone gets up and starts preaching, I would wonder, "Who is that person?"
Sometimes I wondered if the pastor was presenting the sermon, or if it was a member of the congregation. (Perhaps the pastor was on vacation.) Moreover, many times the bulletin did not tell the name of the regular pastor, so when the service was over, I still had no idea the name of the pastor of the church that I had just visited.
Examples
For example, a preacher could say:
"Hello and welcome to all the visitors. My name is Pastor Jones, and I am going to be preaching on the topic of _________."
A singer could say:
"Hi, my name is Beth McLendon. I'm going to sing the song...."
"Hi, my name is Jim, and I'm going to read a scripture from the Bible."
Father of all Wisdom,
Your Word tells us that it is important to show ourselves friendly.
We come to you today to take the spotlight off others and put it on ourselves. No matter where we are in relation to friendliness, we can all find ways to increase the friendliness we extend to others.
Remind us of the way it feels to walk into a church for the first time.
Remind us of the way it feels to experience being on the outside
of church activities and routines.
We come before you today to seek understanding and to learn to give compassion.
In your loving name we pray,
Amen

Once I visited a large church for several months that did not have a Sunday school. Since I had gone there for a long time, it got to the point where I was very embarrassed to ask someone to tell me if the pastor was married and if he had children.
Allowing visitors to know a little about the pastor brings a feeling of warmth to the church experience. This could be done through the church bulletin or with a flyer that is given to each visitor.
Again, sometimes the members of a church are so familiar with the people and the routines that the members overlook simple acts of courtesy to their visitors.
Do You Realize?
Every church will hurt you. Churches are not perfect.
Every person has the potential to hurt you. People are not perfect.
When wrong things are done to us:
God wants us to forgive. We must forgive even if the person doesn't ask for the forgiveness.
Practical Insights on Forgiveness.
Commentary on the Lord's Prayer and what it says about forgiveness.
When we do wrong things:
God wants us to apologize when we have done something wrong to another person.
We apologize because we want to be obedient to God. Note that the other person may or may not accept our apology.
Dealing with the Hurt that was done to us
In most cases, I would advise people to hesitate
about leaving a church
just because you have been hurt.
Seek wisdom from God before you leave.
The main reasons you leave a church:
When the church has strayed away
from important doctrines of the Bible, or
when the Lord comes to you and
tells you he is leading you to leave your church.
Obviously if anything is
seriously wrong
and the leadership is not going to correct it,
you must leave.
