God of Compassion and Love,

Lord, I come to you in sadness. I am hurting and grieving.

I miss my dear friend.

There is an enormous void in my life.

Memories flood me, and I am overwhelmed.

Help me, Lord.

Help me to deal with my loss.

I want to remember our times together, but I need your miracle-working power to enable me to enjoy those memories  - without at the same time - experiencing this deep grieving.

Surround me with your compassion and your healing mercies.

In Jesus' name I pray,

We are hopeful that in many cases the following prayer will be found by a friend of the pet owner and sent to him or her for comfort.

who has lost a pet

Note

This prayer is written for a female friend

who has lost a pet,

but we encourage you to adapt it to

any male friend who has lost a pet.

Loving Lord,

I pray for your loving compassion to surround my friend who has lost her pet.

Lord, you and I share a love for (friend's name) and a compassion for her emotional pain.

Lord, put your arms of love around her and comfort her as she deals with the loss of her beloved pet.

Death has taken her treasured companion from her home, but it cannot take (pet's name) from her heart.

Thank you, Lord, for all the good times that they shared. They created a bond that will never be broken.

Thank you for all the joy and laughter that (pet's name) gave to the world. 

As (friend's name) ponders their reunion in heaven, may she feel a growing satisfaction that this life is but the entry hall into our eternal home.

May (friend's name) feel warm and comforted as she realizes that there will be more memories to be made with her pet when she arrives in our Father's heavenly home.

As we look through the eyes of faith, we see (pet's name) joyfully playing in the heavenly kingdom of God.

In Jesus' name I pray,

Note from Beth:

Although there is no definite Bible verse to say that our pets will be with us in heaven, I firmly and totally believe they will. 

I remind you that there is not a Bible verse that says that our pets will not be in heaven.  AND  I believe that the Bible implies - in many places and in many ways - that our pets will be in heaven. 

For example, hours before Jesus went to the cross, he told his disciples, "Ask in my name, that your joy may be full."John 16:24

If Jesus cares about our joy here on earth, how much more will he care about our joy being full in heaven. I cannot think of any reason that God would keep us from our pets in heaven.

On the other hand, there are very clear verses that say that every person will not go to heaven.

As a person, each of us must repent of our sins and ask the Lord to forgive us of our sins. We must ask Jesus to be our Savior and Lord of our life. We must become a disciple of Jesus Christ in order to go to heaven.  Please visit our Prayer for Salvation page for more information.

God is a loving God.  He extends his love to every person. But going to heaven is not about God's love. It is about "Do we love God?"
