Psalm 124
A Psalm of David
That
Proclaims:
God rescues!
In this Psalm we read
the story of God rescuing Israel
- and -
if we look,
we see a psalm reminding us that
it is God who also
rescues us!
We begin this
Psalm of Thanksgiving
by listening to
Psalm 124 NKJV
If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, now may Israel say;
2 If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us:
3 Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:
4 Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul:
5 Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.
6 Blessed be the Lord, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.
7 Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.
8 Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
We have all been there -
in a crisis situation where we are desperate for help.
We have all faced an enemy
in the form of a crisis situation.
It
might be financial,
it might be a disaster situation,
it might be a
wayward teen,
it might even be fighting for our very life
or
the life of
one we love.....
We have all been in situations
where only a miracle can help.
And God is the one who rescues us - even if we don't perceive it at the time.

Psalm 124
is a beautiful psalm reminding us that:
It is God who rescues us.
The 124th Psalm is a psalm of
yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
~
For those of us who have been a Christian
for a long time,
we read this Psalm
and remember
times
that God rescued us.
~
Then...
If we are going through difficult trials,
we read Psalm 124 and realize
that God will rescue us.
~
If we read this psalm
while thinking about future trials,
we realize that
God is in our tomorrow's
and he will find us there and rescue us then.
Psalm 124
A Psalm of Deliverance
~
Lord,
You are the King.
You are the Lord.
You are the One
Who delivers me.
God rescues us
from
Satan's snares.
Verse 7
Our soul is escaped as a bird
out of the snare of the fowlers:
the snare is broken, and we are escaped.
Satan enjoys getting us entangled in his snares.
For example,
~
Sometimes we complicate our situations by
our unwise actions.
For example,
# 1. Satan gives a sense of
urgency in order to push us to make a quick choice before we have all
the facts and prayed about it.
And we fall for that trap.
# 2. Satan discourages us from reading the Bible.
And we fall for that trap.
Words from the Bible
And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work,
and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom:
to whom be glory for ever and ever.
Amen.
2 Timothy 4:18
~ ~ ~
As young David was facing the giant, he said,
"The Lord
that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the
bear,
he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine."
1 Samuel 17:37
~ ~ ~
The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil:
he shall preserve thy soul.
The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in
from this time forth,
and even for evermore.
