This week's topic:

Waking up the Church

Monday  

What is wrong with the following?

An unmarried

man and woman

spend the night together in the same bed

and then

get up and

go to church together

as is their habit.

What is wrong with this picture?

The Church has forgotten

to teach that:

1 Corinthians 6:18 says:

Flee from sexual immorality. 

And

Colossians 3:5-6 TLB says:

" Away then with sinful,

earthly things;

deaden the evil desires lurking within you;

have nothing to do with

sexual sin,

impurity, lust and shameful desires;

don't worship the good things of life,

for that is idolatry.

God's terrible anger is upon those who do such things."

Galatians 5:19
Ephesians 5:3
1 Corinthians 6:13
Hebrews 13:4
2 Corinthians 12:21

Many people feel no conviction for their sin

while listening to sermons

in their church.

Waking up the Church -

Scripture says:

Awake to righteousness, and sin not.

1 Corinthians 15:34 KJV

God is calling the Church to

Awake to Righteousness.

Father God,

We pray for our churches to become a place of repentance

and dedication to you.

We pray for our churches to become a place of passion for

you and your Bible principles. 

As we teach the truth about sexual sin

and the need for repentance concerning sexual sin,

remind us

to show love and compassion

to those who are ensnared in sexual sin. 

Amen

Tuesday

What is wrong with the following?

A person who says he loves God

gets in a situation

and 

thinks that telling the truth will cause trouble for him

so he lies.

What is wrong with this picture?

The Church has forgotten

to teach that:

God hates lying.

 

God commands us

"Thou shalt not lie."

We see this in many verses such as:

Proverbs 12:22,

Proverbs 6:16-19,

Leviticus 19:11,

Exodus 20:16,

Acts 5:1-11,

Colossians 3:9

God hates lying.

In Psalm 119:163, God is teaching us to say that we hate lying.

Hollywood tells us

that

everybody lies so it is no big deal.

They even teach us that

lying is funny.

Waking up the Church -

Scripture says:

“Awake, O sleeper,

and arise from the dead,

and Christ will shine on you.”

Ephesians 5:14
English Standard Version

Father God,

We pray for our churches to become a place of repentance

and dedication to you.

We pray for our churches to become a place of passion for

you and your Bible principles. 

As we teach your truth

about the sin of lying,

and

the importance of repentance,

and

the importance of a lifestyle of telling the truth at all times -

remind us

to show love and compassion

to those who are ensnared in a lifestyle of lying. 

Amen

Wednesday 

What is wrong with the following?

Christian parents are so busy

that they never teach their children the Bible.

What is wrong with this picture?

The Church has forgotten that

God says to

teach the Bible to our children:

Deuteronomy 11:18-21 NCV

says...

" Remember my words with your whole being.

Write them down and tie them

to your hands as a sign;

tie them on your foreheads to remind you.

Teach them well to your children,

talking about them

when you sit

at home

and

walk along the road,

when you lie down and when you get up.

 Write them on your doors and gates so that

both you and your children

will live a long time

in the land the Lord promised your ancestors,

as long as the skies are above the earth."

What is more important than

praying for your children

and

teaching them to follow God?

Father God,

We pray for our churches to become a place of repentance

and dedication to you.

We pray for our churches to become a place of passion for

you and your Bible principles.

Today, we come before you to rededicate ourselves

to teaching our children

about you and about your Word.

As we teach about your Bible principles,

remind us to speak and act

with mercy and compassion.

Amen

Thursday 

What is wrong with the following?

Fifty shades of Grey

book

is so popular

that Kroger proudly

puts a display of the books

right next to the cash registers.

What is wrong with this picture?

The Boldness of the world brings me to ask:

Where is the salt and light of our churches?

Where is the influence of the Church in our world?

?

The world is influencing the church

MORE

than the church is influencing the world.

The CHURCH needs to WAKE UP!

Father God,

We pray for our churches to become a place of repentance

and dedication to you.

We pray for our churches to become a place of passion for

you and your Bible principles. 

As we teach your truth

about the sin of pornography

and

the need for repentance,

remind us to

show love and compassion

to those who are ensnared in sexual sin. 

Amen

Getting Free

Anyone who has been a regular visitor

to this site,

knows that I teach a lot on the

Love of God.

I teach - more than anyone I know -  about

HOW

to receive and enjoy the love of God.

Yet,

if someone does not understand God's views on sin,

that person will not know God very well.

The Church has forgotten that

Jesus said:

 
"If anyone wishes to come after Me,

he must deny himself and

take up his cross and follow me."

Matthew 16:24-25

"Follow Him" means obey the words of the Bible.

"Follow Him" means that Jesus is not just your Savior, but he is also your Lord.

"Pick up your Cross" - the Cross represents a lifestyle.

It is a willingness to follow Jesus in every way.

It is a commitment to stay close to Jesus.

It is a firm commitment to refuse to go

where Jesus would not go and

the determination to go where he sends us.

 

How do we know

if we KNOW God

and

are going to heaven?

1 John 2:3-4 explains:

"And how can we be sure that we belong to Him?

By looking within ourselves:

are we really trying to do what he wants us to?

Someone may say,

'I am a Christian; I am on my way to heaven;

I belong to Christ.'

But if he doesn't do what Christ tells him to, he is a liar."

Psalm 119:9-11

1 Peter 1:14-15

Isaiah 66:2

If we are living in sin

and

we enter a church,

we should realize that it is right that we feel convicted.

Conviction is the Mercy of God.

God wants us to get Right with Him.

The Church needs to Wake Up.

And

I need to Wake up.

Lord,

Help me to spiritually wake up

in any area

where I am drowsy.

Dear Lord,

I want to be spiritually awake.

I don't want to have drowsy devotion to you or sleepy faith in you.

I declare that  I will stay awake to spiritual things.

I will not allow myself to become drowsy and dull when it comes to hearing you and obeying you.

Help me to keep this commitment to you.

In Jesus' name I pray,
